Flaming Fish Music
Back when Code of Ethics, Dance House Children, and Painted Orange were breathing new life into the Christian synthpop genre, this one-man band from Chicago released its first and only album. Consisting of synthpop musician Jerome Mikulich, 3.1 sports a unique, upbeat electronic sound that closely resembles Code of Ethics' most dance-oriented material. Although all of the songs are guaranteed to get your feet tapping, the best songs are the title track, "Take A Ride" and "Satisfaction," which is not a remake of the Rolling Stones classic. Other cool songs on 31 Degrees and 2 Miles of Fog (which wins a "cool title" award), include the "19"-like "BDA (Bomb Damage Assessment)," which is about the Persian Gulf War, a seething commentary on televangelists titled "NAB Prophet," and "Wisdom," which speaks of the need for a Holy Spirit-given gift. In spite of the energetic, high-quality synth-pop featured on 31 Degrees and 2 Miles of Fog, 3.1 never achieved the success that came to other Christian synthpop bands. This is very unfortunate.
