Michael and Linda came together as musical partners in 1996. The Swelling Soul's debut release entitled water comes rushing in... came out at the end 1997 under the now defuct Mindfield Records label. The CD gave its listeners their first taste of the band's distinct sound. The release was well received and got several positive reviews. Most reviews labeled The Swelling Soul's music as "darkwave".

Michael is currently working on a solo project under the name "Fossil".
